WoMenS mOnth

It's the end of march. Anything special in this month? You bet, a lot there is..

It is my month. The month I was born..but who cares? It was only me. And who I am? Funny if you think about it and that same question might entered your mind, too. Who dared am I or if this is my month?

But, hey...let me finish my dears...Yes, it is my month - the month I was born - and THIS-is-my-Month - as a woman.

It is women's month by the way. And I am proud to be one!

It was first celebrated in 1911 in Europe. In March 8 that year, the whole world celebrated it as International Women's Day. In history, women are belittled. Fathers' became weary if they bore a daughter. Mothers are afraid of their husbands and the society if they gave birth to a daughter. A son is cherished...a proud of family. But a daughter??? They never even have the right to learn to read nor write, maybe even their name. What a shame. I was - and still - thankful that I was born these years, where women are treated the way men are. Women in the past has no rights, they had no voice. They only follow what are told them to do of their father or husband. It's much a shame that sometimes, a son is more powerful than the mother. That the mother have to follow the son not the other way around, mostly in Europe.

But as time goes by, in so many ways, women started to find ways to show their abilities, to seek rights the same as the men, to find voice for their thoughts. In many European nations, as well as in the United States, women's rights was a political hot topic. Woman suffrage — winning the vote — was a priority of many women's organizations. Women (and men) wrote books on the contributions of women to history.

From that day in 1911, the celebration became Women's History Week in 1978, and in 1987, at the request of the National Women's History Project, Congress expanded the week to a month, and the U.S. Congress has issued a resolution every year since then, with wide support, for Women's History Month. The U.S. President has issued each year a proclamation of Women's History Month.

From then on 'til now, we celebrated our month..we celebrated our talents and abilities..and what our women ancestors has contributed in the past.

Here in the Philippines the National Women's Month celebration opened last February 28 this year with the theme - "Babae, Tagumpay ka ng Bayan!" - it attempts to broaden the understanding of microentrepreneurs, partners from government and non-government organizations, academe, and the private sector on microenterprise development, government programs and services that are responsive to the issues and concerns of Filipino women relative to their dignity and rights, the environment, and family and work life balance.

This is the end of the month-long celebration. And as we end this month, may be not end but rather continue to honor and respect the dignity and the contributions of womens, then and now. ^_^

MaYon Volcano

This is our pride! I grew up seeing it almost every single day of my 17 years. But since then, I see it only once in a while now. That is, only if I went to our province for a few days of vacation. I missed looking at it. I missed seeing it's magnificent view.

Even though I grew up almost always seeing this perfect view, I am always admiring it. Wondering what was on the other side of it, what was inside it. I even sometimes wonder what it is like to live nearer to it. How would it looked like if I am closer to it? Would it still be this beautiful? Would it still looked like a perfect cone? Would it still this magnificent?

But even though I sometime wonder those things, I wouldn't trade my place to anybody's place closer to it. I wouldn't trade the beauty of our view of this mountain/volcano to the danger of living nearer to it.

These pictures are taken in front of our house. And this is how it looks like from our place. It is a very nice view specially if the weather is good and clouds wouldn't obscure it's magnificent beauty.

This very beautiful volcano could be this magnificent if in good weather and condition. If there is no danger of erupting. I even watch it in my younger years erupting lava. I admit, watching its tip change color is still awesome, but thinking the damaged it caused some of the family's, thinking the loss of lives because of it makes me a little sad.

This is the Mayon Volcano. The pride of Bicol, especially the province of Albay. It rises 2462 m (8,077 ft) from the ground and it is the Philippines' most active volcano. It is considered to be the world's most perfectly formed volcano for its symmetrical cone. Its sides are layers of lava and other volcanic material. It has forty-nine eruptions in recorded history. The first recorded major eruption was in 1616 and the most destructive eruption of Mayon occurred on February 1, 1814. The latest damaged it has done that took a lot of lives I think was in 2006, although it is not because of eruption but because of erosion of lava and large stones and other volcanic material that are gathered around it.

That year, the storm helped in the catastrophe, too. And it that eventually was also the cause of our loss of our house, the entire house and nothing left us but what my parents are wearing that day before they left the house to transfer to a little farther place.

Besides all this, we already overcome it. And whatever has happened, I still admire this and love this mountain. I am still star struck by it's magnificent. It is still a miracle of God! *_*

Holy WeeK and my Plans

It is holy week in Roman Catholic calendar. Holy week is the observation of Christ s life before his death on the cross, before he gave his life in exchange of forgiveness of the sins of the people.

It is the last week of Lent and the week before Easter.

This year, 2010, This week starts yesterday, March 28 with the Palm Sunday. On this day we remember the successful entrance of the Lord, Jesus Christ in Jerusalem. I went to church late morning for the 10 a.m mass with my youngest sister.

It is now the second day of the holy week. Most schools are already in vacation for the summer though some colleges still have classes.

Offices have still work until Wednesday and will be on vacation starting on Maunday Thursday until the Easter Sunday. Our office announces an overtime work during those days - Maunday Thursday, Good Friday and Black Saturday. Well, nothing new in that, didn t have to be surprised.

But, I am not going to report to work on any of those three days..Hehehe..nothing new too.

I didn t observe Fasting (not eating or reducing dairy and meaty foods) the whole Lenten season (that is from Ash Wednesday until Easter Sunday). I have my own devotion on this week. My sacrifice will be the joing the Alay-Lakad (Sacrifice walk) from home (Cembo, Makati) to the Church in Antipolo City, Rizal.

This is my third walk in this route. We usually start around 8 p.m. on Maunday Thursday and arrived on the church on the early morning - around 2 a.m. on Good Friday. It is tiresome and as well as fun, too.

I enjoyed each walk of course we are praying while walking. Hopefully through this sacrifice we can share and feel a little of what Jesus has suffered during those times of turmoil in His life.

I am looking forward to this walk. I know it would be a good one. *_*

Palawan - dReam pLace in tHe Philippines

Last year, everyone is holding their breath for the result for the 7 new wonders of the world votes. Every beautiful places, architectures, forests, parks, and many others that hold peoples breathe that takes a look at them are nominated for the title. The voting is through the online and telephone voting. So everybody's welcomed to vote for their choices. I even joined this, but it slipped my mind to check out who had won.

It occured to me last week when I read about the Subterranean River National Park in Palawan topping the the global voting for the new seven wonders of the world under the category forest, natural parks, and nature reserves. I was so delighted reading this, not only because it really is a beautiful place, it is water-based, nature spirirted reserves, but also it belongs to my beloved country - the Philippines!

I check the net for the new 7 wonders of the world, I am a bit disappointed of the result, frankly. I admit that all of the winners are eye-catching. They have unique beauty. Everything is beautiful in it's own way. What I am a little disappointed is that all the winners are mostly architectural based. No parks, no water related, no nature, no forest. Everything is an architecture, an manmade stone built.

I don't know, I love these sites, too. But I am disappointed maybe because I am a lover of water. I love sights with water.

And I think the judges - no spun intended - are mostly architecture professional, so the rumors that judgment may be biased cannot be erased in my mind. Is it true that they've been biased in their judgment? I hope they are not. I hope they've been professional in judgment, most specially.

Voting through online and telephone is not very reliable either, I think. Countries that are widely users of internet could win much that vote. Countries that are financially stable enough, with my spare coins to to use for calling and voting could win much votes, don't you think so? Well, I think so.

Whatever, winner or not, I still love rivers, forests and nature.

The Subterranean River National Park has been consistently at the top spot upon checking in the website of the New7Wonders.

It is said to be the world’s longest passable underground river, which measures 8.2 kilometers of winding stretch that passes through a cave with major formations of stalactites and stalagmites.

Of course, I wouldn't forget that the winners are interesting. they are beautiful, as I said before, in their own ways. Here they are.

ISTANBUL - City of Worlds' Desire

sunset at golden horn - istanbul
Each country, i think has it's title. Some aliases..
Japan is the 'Land of the Rising Sun' just bcoz the sun rises each morning in this side of of the world.
United States is 'Land of Milk and Honey' ..etcetera, etcetera..
Well, I got interested to one of the Turkeys city - Istanbul. It is called the "City of the Worlds' Desire". I am interested as to why it was called the "city of the world's desire". What does istanbul has to be desired? What does it have to gain such a very nice title? I think it is cute, it is such a very nice title for a place.

So what I did is research about this place..

Here are some richness that the city might have to earn him his title...These are awesome, electrifying, interesting places that you wouldn't wanna miss if u go to this city.

As Alphonse de Lamartine said--"If one had but a single glance to give the world, one should gaze on Istanbul."

The city is called with different names - Constantinople, Istanbul, Byzantium - and this is a rich city.

Rich in history, ambience, architecture, and culture. It is a city that was feared and envied through history. History that may traced back thousand of years ago. It has been the capital to the Eastern Roman Empire, they Byzantines and the Ottomans. And, it is the city that brought terror to Europe for three centuries.
aya sophia

It has been greatly a setting for good novels, movies, and subject of many studies.

I wonder what would it feel being there. I wonder if I could feel the ghosts of powerful people when you are around the city. The ghosts of Theodosious, Constantine, and Suleiman the Magnificent. How does every alley, every cobbled street might feel when you strolled in it.

Istanbul is squeezed in between two great continents. One side is Europe and Asia on the other. It was smack in the middle of the trade routes. And he has been powerful among else. He was desired by everyone - Greeks, Persians, Byzantines, Crusaders and finally the Turks who made it the centre of an islamic empire.

When I think of the Muslim countries around this side of the world I can always see the desert. All I see is heat, sun, dust, open lifeless flats.

topkapi
But learning about this city brings new light to my very limited knowledge of the place. It has a very great sea which was favoured most by its tourists. The sea cuts up Istanbul into three sections. Tourists mostly spend their time in the peninsula housing Topkapi and Sultanhammet.

There the great monuments are housed here: the Aya Sophia, the Hippodrome and the Grand Bazaar. The Golden Horn - a section of water flowing into the Bosphorus can be found North side of town and is crossed by the Galata Bridge. Across the bridge and still on the European side is hilly Beyoglu. Turkish mansions and houses line the hill as does the cities main shopping/entertainment street - Istikal Caddesi. Across the water is Asia, reachable by ferries - here lie the districts of Hyderpassa and Scutari. And railway connections which take you further into the Turkish heartland.

Reading only about the city is desirable enough ... what's more if I can go there or someone is out there? One of the many places that I desired to see and visit - well, a girl can dream..^_^

*indebted to the owners of the pictures..thanks so much. *_*

Angkor Wat - The Sun is RiSinG!!!

I was browsing the net for the 7 wonders of the world when I landed to a site that really catches my attention. It was the picture that really did it. What a spectacular sight it is! Yes, I am a fan, an admirer of beautiful sceneries and views. so this picture really takes my breathe away. I wish I could watch this sunrise in person. I wish I could visit this place someday. If only finances were good and chances would give me an opportunity.

Until then, I will devour myself in looking at this picture. Admire it as it is. Enjoy myself with its supernatural beauty. When time comes that finances are good and that will allow me to visit this place, only then I will enjoy its true beauty. so now ... I ll sleep with this image in my dreams :D

Taylor Swift - Today is fairy Tale

I love this song of Taylor Swift..Well..I loove her songs..She's great and she's good..Nice voice too..
This is her latest song today and it was one of the soundtrack for the movie "Valentines' Day" that features some well-known celebrities..

Today Was A Fairytale lyrics

Today was a fairytale
You were the prince
I used to be a damsel in distress
You took me by the hand and you picked me up at six

Today was a fairytale
Today was a fairytale
Today was a fairytale

I wore a dress
You wore a dark grey t-shirt
You told me I was pretty when I looked like a mess
Today was a fairytale

Time slows down whenever you're around
But can you feel this magic in the air?
It must have been the way you kissed me
Fell in love when I saw you standing there

It must have been the way
Today was a fairytale
It must have been the way
Today was a fairytale

Today was a fairytale
You've got a smile that takes me to another planet
Every move you make everything you say is right
Today was a fairytale

Today was a fairytale
All that I can say is it's getting so much clearer
Nothing made sense until the time I saw your face
Today was a fairytale

Time slows down whenever you're around
Yeah yeah
But can you feel this magic in the air?
It must have been the way you kissed me

Fell in love when I saw you standing there
It must have been the way
Today was a fairytale
It must have been the way
Today was a fairytale

Time slows down whenever you're around
I can feel my heart
It's beating in my chest
Did you feel it?
I can't put this down

But can you feel this magic in the air?
It must have been the way you kissed me
Fell in love when I saw you standing there
It must have been the way

But can you feel this magic in the air?
It must have been the way you kissed me
Fell in love when I saw you standing there
It must have been the way

Today was a fairytale
It must have been the way
Today was a fairytale

She is a doll, isn't she? Very nice voice too.. :D
