Safety Tips During Tornado/Whirlwind

Tornadoes are not common calamity here in the Philippines. We have typhoon mostly since we are on the pacific area. That's why safety tips for this events is not very popular.

Even I, who frequently on the net has no knowledge on tornado events. Just when I saw a small twister I became interested.

So here are some safety tips I learned.

1.) Just like any other calamities, we have to prepare our emergency kit (includes food, water, medications, batteries, flashlights, important documents, road maps, and a full tank of gasoline for those who has a vehicle)

2.) When the tornado approaches, stay indoors preferably in a basement if you have a basement, or an interior first-floor room or hallway if no basement.

3.) Stay away from windows. Seek shelter and additional protection in any large solid pieces of furnitures.

4.) Avoid automobiles for it provides no protection at all.

5.) If you are caught by tornadoes outdoors, lie on the flat surfaces or in a depression or on other low ground and wait for the tornado to pass.

Which do you think is better. Mineral/bottled water or fresh spring water?

Even a kid of two already knows that water is a very essential part of human life. It is second to the most important needs of our body next to air.

We are surrounded by water. Earth is composed of a large body of water.
But the question is "Can we drink any kind of water?" Of course, you are right. We can't. We can not drink salt water. We can not drink rain water. We can not drink dirty waters.

Pollution is our one BIG problem. The small amount of fresh drinking water became polluted making drinkable water lesser. That's why we find solution to the problem. And the solution? Bottled water, purified water, mineral water, etc., etc.

I learned drinking purified water when I reach the age of 17. From my birth 'til that age I was drinking fresh spring water.

I think fresh spring water is tastier than purified one. But with the pollution today, I don't think it is still safe to drink spring waters.

But in our spring, I am still confident that it is still safe. Our place is far from the road. Far from the noise and smoke of cars. It is still very hidden.

Exotic Food, I missed it.

Do you love exotic food? I do.

I grew up in a very rural area. During my childhood what you call exotic foods are just ordinary food to us. We don't understand the word exotic. We eat what is edible. No second thoughts. We don't ask if others eat it. We don't ask if it's exotic or is it ordinary.

When I came to city I discovered that what I enjoyed eating is exotic and most people can't take it. That food we get from our backyard is highly priced in the city.

In my early years, I have eaten snake meat, alligator, wild cat, etc. And one of my favorite the snail.
It is a very tasty snail. I love it with coconut milk. There is nothing to worry about this food. It is feed on decaying leaves.

Many may not like this if they see the snail physically. But if you taste it without knowing what it is, I am sure they would love it. And lately I learned that is snail is served in some fine dining restaurant and costly.

So I am proud that what rich people eat in their fine dining restaurants, I have eaten free of charge and in large
quantity.

Commoners or ordinary people are more blessed then richer ones when it comes to food. We, commoners, can eat what elite people have eaten, but elite people cannot eat what we have eaten.

So we should be proud of what we are. (-.-)

This is my first sighting of it... beautiful but dangerous

I came home around three in the afternoon on Wednesday last week when I heard a neighbor calling my husband and saying there is a twister.
My husband went outside to see for himself. I ignore it, besides I don't know what he means by a 'twister'. I continued on eating my lunch. But then I heard some commotion. There were people outside the house. Not only my husband and the man who called him but more. So I investigate. I went outside and I saw that my neighbors were all outside and looking up and pointing on something.

I did just what they were doing. I looked up.

And this was what I saw.

I was mesmerized. Really. It was soooo beautiful. But then it hit me. This is a whirlwind. It may be beautiful, but thinking the danger it brings makes me so nervous. It is in our place. What if it goes down in our place? What will I do? I read and heard tips in safety precautions and safety  tips in case of fire, earthquake, typhoon and other calamity. But I have no idea about whirlwinds, tornadoes and the likes. I felt afraid, not only for me and my family, but I felt afraid about those that will be affected if it goes down. Wherever it drops, for sure there will be casualties.

So imagine my relief when it slowly disappears before my eyes and up ahead. I am amazed about its beauty and very thankful that it didn't fall down.

A Tribute to a father

It is a very special day........

June 19 - Jose Rizal's birthday. A Philippines National Hero. A father - if not physically - then intellectually, to all of the Filipino's.

It is also our First Year Wedding Anniversary!!! Yippey! We have been through a year. (akalain mo??) We will celebrate the day by going to church to attend a mass and say thank you to the God the Father. Then we will cook a little feast for our family. Just a merienda.

And what's the third and the biggest of all? This is the day for all the father's out there!! Legally nor illegally. (^.-)

So I dedicate this simple page for all the fathers out there. For every father in the world that could read this. I dedicate this page to the father of my friends, enemies, colleagues, family, and to my husbands father and to my beloved father.

I want to give a big, big thanks to the father of my friends. If not because of you I would not meet such good friends as your sons and daughters. I enjoy my living in this world because of those good friends around me who love and supports me. Because of you, there are people like my friends to meet spend a life with. I cherish all of those days.

I would like to say thank you, too, to the father of my enemies (if there are any). Without your sons and daughters I will not grow as a person. I will not discover my weakness and my strengths. Without them I will not know who my friends are. Because of them, I distinguish the difference between good friends and bad ones. So a big thank you to all of you.

I would extend my thanks to the father of my colleagues. Without you, I will not meet my colleagues that makes my job/work easier and enjoyable. Because of them I still go to work and look forward to working again the next day. My colleagues became my friends or enemies. So I thank you.

Thanks also to the fathers that surrounds my family. My cousins, uncles, and brothers that are now a father, thank you!

Thank you to "tatay", my husbands father. I now enjoy everyday of my life with my beloved because of you. Thank you for raising him to be a good man.

Best of all, a gigantous thanks to my beloved father. I enjoy every day in this world because of you. I enjoy the beauty of the flowers, the soft breeze of the wind, the hum of the birds and the noises of the cars because of you. Thank you for raising me to be a better person. And for understanding me for every failure I made. I am so grateful and so thankful that you are my father. I love you Pa. Have a long life and take care of yourself.....HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!!!!
(simple moment with dad)

To all of the father out there.......

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!!!!
(please be a good father :D)
